California hopes for a piece of the gay marriage money
With the recent California state Supreme Court ruling striking down the ban on same-sex marriage, California stands to become a destination spot for gay and lesbian couples from around the world. The city of San Francisco is hoping for the biggest piece of the wedding cake. The decision takes effect in 30 days. Gay couples would then be permitted to marry in California, even if they do not live in the state, gay rights lawyers said. Under federal law, however, other states would not have to recognize those marriages as valid. And same-sex couples would remain ineligible for certain federal benefits, including Social Security benefits for spouses and joint filing for income taxes. As California prepares for an influx of Gay’s heading to the Golden State to get hitched , the travel industry is hoping to cash in on the influx of visitors from all over the World.
